César Ritz (1850-1918), was born in Niederwald, a village in the Goms valley.
He has long enjoyed worldwide fame as ancestor of luxury hotels. He had a knack for identifying and practicing the essential elements of welcome and hospitality. He has reinvented hospitality and hotel service. With the creation of the chain of Ritz hotels he was said to be "King of hoteliers and hotelier of kings".
